So I'm going to try and be a regular on the bloggament circuit going forward. I went out of the Mookie last night in 26th when a new player (one of the chip leaders) got moved to the table and opened into my BB from the SB and I shoved with A2. He had A9 and I didn't improve, but on the bright side, I did win a last longer with Loretta and chimp, so I still turned a mild profit.
So right now I'm in the riverchasers, and I've already had some interesting hands. I'm going to blog-as-I-go because I know I'm gonna forget these later.
Here villain is running 30/18/9, so I know he's playing this pretty wide.

Cya at the MATH next week! (Queens broke again)
Hmm. I think I might like heads up play. So Full Tilt has a 4 player 6.50$ double heads up SNG. It took me one hand to win the first match when I raised pre with QJ, villain made a soft 3bet, so I called. Flop came Q-high with two spades, he cbet, I jammed, he called with AsTs and bricked out. Not sure if that's okay for heads up play, but from what I've gathered reading about other people playing HU, top pair is usually golden.
The 2nd match took a bit longer, but it ended with a sick river card for the other guy who slow played his way to no pay.

I run goooot (Part 39152?)
So these 8$ tournies that are supposedly so beatable to get 26$ tokens? Well I get off to a rough start when I run the best flopped hand into drawing hands and fold out when the draw gets there (both times there were >= 2 people in the pot with me, and I got to see showdowns where I would have been beat).
Then this. Classic crushmastac rolling.

A Quick Summary of the Weekend
QQ broke again. Decided to run it into AA this time (preflop).
TT < QQ on 559, going down to a perfect slow play in a donkey-riddled field I find the one guy who knows how to move.
Home game (part 3) was a success. 9 players for game 1, 8 for game 2. Same guy won both for a combined 110$ score. Good for him. I was card dead and couldn't get past 5th :( Had many beers so it was still fun.
Moved some monies to Full Tilt where I continue to be wildly unsuccessful.
I need to find my mojo.
Fast.
That is all.

It's ironic that KK, QQ and JJ have all been huge losers for me, but AK seems to win for me almost every time. Wierd.
And to cap it off, this happened shortly after my suckout (to the same poor bastard that I sucked out on)

Drunken heads up matches are +EV
So this weekend was rediculous, and that's an understatement. Long story short, went to a buddy's house, had a few shots, went to the bar, went through 4 pitchers, several rounds of shots, then came back to my place and decided it would be fun to have some rye coke and more beer. So we're all just about drunk blind, and one of my friends (also a poker addict, like myself) thought it would be fun to play heads up for 20 bucks. I don't remember how it ended, but we were playing 10BB stacks (yeah....drruuunk) and I got down to 3BB before making a big comeback winning a series of 60/40's and ended up winning.
So he says double or nothing, and tosses another 40 on the table, I'm drunk, so I of course say yes, and about 15 minutes later my TT > his AQ and I'm 60 bucks richer. haha. Yeah, kinda odd story, but I just felt like sharing.
Back on friday/saturday for the next home game results.

The Home Game - Part 2
So this past weekend was Poker night again, and attendance was once again a little thinner than hoped. 5 players came out to play, no rebuys this time. 10$ freeze out. Small stakes, yeah, but most of my friends are poor college-going folk, so it's still worth competing for.
The first game was the more intense of the two. I use the pokerstars blind structure (minus antes, by popular demand) and 20 minute levels. The very first hand of the tourney, I'm UTG and find none-other than red aces. I triple the bet to 60, and it folds around. Boooo. I show, for fun. I don't think it's -EV to show a hand like that when it's the first hand of the tourney. Some small pots later (none of which I won) I wake up with QQ OTB. One player limps, I raise it up again, the BB calls, and the limper folds. The first two cards on the flop were nice little rags, but the 3rd card in the window was a King :( BB checks to me, I bet about 2/3 the pot, and he min-raises.
This is the first time he's been to the game. He's folded every hand so far, which I know isn't saying a lot since we're only 4 hands into this thing, but for some reason I was getting a strong-ish vibe off of him. So I pondered for a while and folded.
I didn't feel great about the hand at the time, but he made this play 4 or 5 more times throughout the course of the evening, and every time he had TP. Usually a shit kicker though. So I'm pretty sure he had a K there.
As usual, the rest of the field wasn't spectacular. One especially generous player went out early after continuously calling raises preflop, and big bets on all 3 streets with either ace high or a mediocre pair. Some folk just don't like money.
I ended up heads up with the same guy as the last game. I don't remember too much about the hands leading up to the final hand. A lot of stealing and restealing and we only saw two flops before we got to this hand.
Hero (~3400): OTB/SB with AsTs
Villain: (~4100): BB
Blinds 200/400
Hero raises to 1200. Villain calls.
Flop: K-Q-rag with 1 spade.
Hero checks, villain shoves, hero calls.
I wasn't crazy about calling, but I figured I had two live cards, and from how much he'd been shoving, I included some air in his range. I figured it was enough to call getting pretty big pot odds. He shows me K5, I don't improve, and I have to settle with 2nd. Oh well.
The next game was considerably faster. The winner from the first round had to jet off, and we agreed to make the blinds go up every 15 minutes. I don't remember too much until myself and the player who min-raised my QQ in the first tourney were heads up. The final hand saw me with AQ raise preflop. He calls. The flop comes three rag spades and I have less than a pot behind, so I shove, and he calls with KQ, the King in spades. The turn is a 4th rag spade, and that's all she wrote.
So I had a massive 0% ROI this time around (2nd place got their buyin back both games) but it was still a great deal of fun, and I'm really looking forward to the next one which will be Jan 25th. Hopefully we can fill the table this time.

Not in the cards
Fuck this. When your big hands lose 20-some times in a row its time to call it quits. AA gets cracked 5 times in a row. School starts in 3 days. I'm done. I'll play again in the summer, maybe by then I don't suck any more.
I'll still post about home games.
Later.
Fuck!
I'll still post about home games.
Later.
Fuck!
Fold AA preflop. Seriously. What the fuck.
Pretty gross.

And I win a nice lil 260 side pot. Losing races is -EV...and something I'm doing a lot of lately.
And then this was a little tilty. The thing that kills me is sportsfan has been running a rediculous 70/40/4 over 20 hands, so the one time I pick up a hand...

I got a 2200 side pot this time, but it didn't last long. A couple key hands later and I'm done.
The consolation side pots are lovely... :/
I'm playing while I write this and I've just gone out of two more with 99 to a guy who called my 3-bet pre with A7 out of position and flopped an A... I just can't get anything going right now. I've got one left, I'm running totally dead, but that's okay, cuz if I pick up a big hand, it'll probably screw me.
Guess I'm waiting for a BB special or two.
Grr.

Bouncin' Around
Wheeee! Had a break even series of days. Had a day to play a series of MTT's which saw me bust out of three 4$ 180's, a 5$ 45 man, a 5$ 360 man and a couple 2$/3$ MTTs with > 1200 people. There were a couple sick coolers and some ugly-ish beats. I don't remember too many specifics except the following thing I was thinking for a while afterwards:
If your premium hands aren't performing, you're never going to go deep.
It's a pretty obvious statement. And Saturday was a huge demonstration of the times everything seems to get cracked. I had AA cracked by 66 AI preflop, I had KK cracked by ATo and J8o (Got him in on a J-high flop with one pair and the river was an 8). AK missed almost every time and it seemed like my opponents were always floating me and it's frustrating! Arg! So a lot of good hands fucked me over. My one cooler was running QQ into a 3-all in preflop war where it was my QQ vs KK and TT. The only hand that improved was the the K's, so whatdaya do? You keep on truckin!
So I tried one of them 10$ 45 man tournies. I let myself play one of these a week because my last couple performances have resulted in a combined ROI of ~250%. I ended up making the final table with an average stack, getting a bit short, but then doubling up twice late courtesy of the table bigstack who was giving chips away as best he could. In the end I 3-bet shoved KQ into the donkytonk chip leader who snap-called with the monster A4 and I was done in 4th. I would have been 3rd, but the table short stack doubled up twice, both times by sucking out. Grr @ being cheated out of an extra 20 bucks! haha. Oh well, 4th paid 56$ and change, so that was nice. It made back the money I'd lost in the other tourneys and then some, to finish the day around 240$.
Then yesterday I had a gross cash session where I definitely found the down side of the variance coin and dropped back to 228$ I might throw up some hand histories later (don't have 'em here) but to some up some of the better ones, I got QQ all in preflop and AK rivered an Ace. I had KK cracked yet again, this time by a player who called all in on the flop with a naked OESD. Just a lot of situations where I was 70/30 or 60/40 or 55/45 where my opponents always seemed to get there. Oh well. Keep on truckin'.
Definitely getting better at staying cool after beats. Well...More cool. I still get a little hot under the collar.
See ya next time. I'm due for a heater. Haven't had one of those in a while.

2008 Goals For A Micro Limit Donkus
Little bit of a grueling session today, another 4-500 hands where I didn't get anything fantastic. AK a couple times and QQ (which actually won a nice pot). The theme of the day was aggro-donkery. Seriously. I was 5-tabling and 3 of my tables had someone running 60/30/5 or higher. One of my tables had a guy running 90/70/4!!!! (I busted him out of almost every chip he brought to that table). I was immediately on his left and I was able to just cruify him (or rather, let him crucify himself) every time I got the smallest piece of a flop. This guy would lead all 3 streets and fold to any kind of a raise on the river. Twice I had a hand and he folded, once I didn't, and he folded that one too. I love players like this. As long as they don't combine their aggrodonkery with lucksackhood. That's a leathal combination right there.
I can't remember any big pots today. Just lots and lots of 2-4$ pots.
Long story short, I picked up another 2.5 buyins to close within 3 buyins of where I was before the massacre from two weeks back. Yay! Want to get some MTTs in this weekend, hopefully.
But yes!! Tis the season for resolutions in the bloggiverse, and I'm not one to miss out on what all the cool kids are doing, so here goes! My resolutions are:
1. Quit smoking. So far so good. I've been an antsy motherfucker the last few days, but it's getting better.
2. Increase bankroll enough to be rolled for 50NL (30 buyins) by the end of the year. This is huge for me because the thought of having a 1500$ bankroll is disgustingly arousing. Wierd, I know.
3. Final table at least one major MTT. This one doesn't seem too rediculous. I don't have time to play the big MTTs very often, but when I do I typically play fairly well, and of course I keep trying to learn to be better.
4. Run at 10BB/100 hands or better in all cash levels. (Currently ~12.5 in 10NL). I'm honestly not very familiar with this number, so I don't know how acheivable this is. Just from having looked at my stats it seems like something I should be able to attain if I play a solid game.
5. Keep learning to deal with beats - especially beats late in a tournament.
6. Increase readership. I know I have a few fans out there who pop by in the comments section from time to time. I love hearing from all of you, and feel free to paste a link up on your blog if you hand one, and I'll gladly link you back. We're all in this together! Bloggers unite! Haha.
It's a pretty short list, but for a college student who plays 2-3 times a week for 1-3 hour sessions, it should still be a challenge. I'll keep ya up to date on progress.
Current Bankroll: $229
Target Bankroll: $1,500
Got some work to do :)

A couple more buyins
The process of rescuing my BR from the tiltiness of a couple weeks ago is almost complete. I salvaged another 2 buyins in a quick session this afternoon. There were a few big pots, including an overpair QQ being good on a T high board for 1 buyin, AQ being good on a Q-high turn when we got it in for another buyin (that I was surprised to get .. I don't have the HH here, but I 3bet pre, he called, I cbet a raggy flop, I bet again on a Q turn, and by then the bet represented half his stack, so he jammed, and I called. He ended up having AJ unimproved if I remember right. That one definitely left me scratching my head.
Lost a pretty big hand when I played 2nd pair TK pretty fast into a player who had just shown up and flopped himself a set of 9's. Fortunately he bought in a lil short and it didn't hurt as much as it could have.
Back over 200, time to start pushing for 3.
